A popular social media account is fooling some Dragon Ball fans into believing that a brand-new chapter of Dragon Ball Super is on the horizon. According to the “leaker,” a promotional page advertising the return of the long-hiatus manga was released ahead of Jump Festa.
The faux Dragon Ball Super leak is spreading like wildfire on X (formerly Twitter). An image of a mysterious red-gloved hand reaching towards a sword with the Japanese text “No mercy to the gods!!” is being shared online. “Coming in 2025” is also plastered on the supposed promotional poster, with additional text suggesting this is an advertisement made for Jump Festa 2025, which will take place in Japan on Dec. 22, 2024.
New Dragon Ball Super ‘Leak’ Implies the Return of a DBZ: Fusion Reborn Villain
This Dragon Ball Super ‘leak’ is getting so much traffic online because it implies the return of a fan-favorite villain from a popular non-canonical anime movie. Janemba — Super Janemba, to be precise — from Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn is the forgotten movie villain being teased in the fake image. The sword, apparently traced from the sword that Gorr the God Butcher uses in Thor: Love and Thunder, resembles Super Janemba’s red Dimension Sword from the 1995 film. Another interesting detail is that the Dragon Ball used for the Dragon Ball Super logo is a Black Star Dragon Ball from Dragon Ball GT. While this could be a careless error, it’s possible that the leaker wanted to suggest a return to the Black Star Dragon Ball concept for the new story arc in Dragon Ball Super.
Although Dragon Ball fans would love to see a canonical introduction of Janemba in Dragon Ball Super or Dragon Ball Daima, few fans are buying the authenticity of the leak. Many of the comments on X call out the fake leak, while others amusingly play along. Of course, this leak is so hard to take seriously because official Dragon Ball staff have yet to announce the Dragon Ball Super manga’s return. The series, written by the late Akira Toriyama with artwork by Toyotarou, went on hiatus after the sudden passing of Toriyama, temporarily concluding with Chapter 103 in March 2024. Toyotarou, who is assumed to play a pivotal role in shaping the Dragon Ball series following the loss of Toriyama, continues to upload new artwork based on Toriyama’s most popular and obscure characters.
At the moment, there’s been no announcement from the official Dragon Ball staff about a possible release date for a new Dragon Ball Super manga, nor has there been any announcement of a special event taking place for Dragon Ball Super at Jump Festa 2025. However, series like Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War will take the stage at this year’s Shonen Jump event.
New episodes of Dragon Ball Daima, the most current iteration of the Dragon Ball franchise, air every Friday on Crunchyroll. The English dub, starring Stephanie Nadolny as Goku (Mini), will premiere on Crunchyroll in January 2025. Dragon Ball Daima is also available on Hulu and Netflix. “Goku and company were living peaceful lives when they suddenly turned small due to a conspiracy!” the series’ official description reads. “When they discover that the reason for this may lie in a world known as the ‘Demon Realm,’ a mysterious young Majin named Glorio appears before them.”
