Endeavor’s entire character arc is centered around his fatherhood. He entered a controversial Quirk marriage, making sure he married a woman with an ice Quirk, so his children would have the perfect balance of heat and cold with their own Quirks. Endeavor thus saw his sons and daughter not as valued family members, but as tools to be molded into heroes who might surpass All Might.
That led to disaster for the Todorokis, mentally and sometimes physically scarring them. Rei, Shoto, and Toya all suffered the worst of it, and only recently has Endeavor come to sincerely regret it all. He truly wishes to atone for what he did, but it’s left to fans’ interpretation whether the new #1 Pro Hero deserves another chance as a twisted pro hero and family man.
Not much was seen of Kotaro Shimura in My Hero Academia, but fans still saw enough to determine that he was not a good father by any means. He was the son of Nana Shimura, the 7th wielder of One For All, and in his boyhood, his mother abandoned him for the sake of his own safety. Kotaro took that hard, and it inspired his hatred of pro heroes.
Kotaro extended that anger to his own son, Tenko, who expressed his admiration for Pro-Heroes, including his grandmother, Nana Shimura. Kotaro never failed to hit and berate his son for admiring heroes, venting his frustration about his own broken family to his son, and Tenko never deserved that. In fact, that was why Tenko actually wanted to kill his father with his newly activated Decay Quirk, while the deaths of all the other Shimuras were accidents.
