Via PR Times, Furugi de Ikoka, a well-known Japanese vintage clothing store, is inspiring customers to get down with wardrobe throwbacks in an anime-inspired way. Using new illustrations for the Yu Yu Hakusho franchise as incentives, the 24-hour store is certain to put a “Smile Bomb” on the face of all anime enthusiasts looking to spice up their clothing with a blast from the past. Part of a preliminary campaign that lasts throughout the year, the choice of an anime franchise showcases just how popular Yu Yu Hakusho remains to this day.
Fashionable Anime Fans Can Return to the ’90s With Yu Yu Hakusho Clothing Collaboration
The new “#Let’sGoWithVintageClothes × Yu☆Yu☆Hakusho” event is a unique way to get consumers to see second-hand clothing as first-rate must-buys. The campaign is being held by Japanese retailer Furugi de Ikoka, which is open 24 hours a day and is completely unmanned. It’s now in its “Eve Festival,” which will run until the end of October, with the main festival lasting from November until Dec. 1. The goal is to promote the second-hand clothing brand and get people to see the value in a recycled remix for their wardrobes. Furthering this nostalgic fashion sense is none other than the 1990s hit Yu Yu Hakusho.
In celebration and to showcase the Yu Yu Hakusho-themed marketing, a special illustration has been made for the clothing store. This picture depicts the cast of the anime walking in front of Furugi de Ikoka while wearing street clothes similar to what can be found there. Interestingly enough, protagonist Yusuke is seen with “normal” hair instead of the street delinquent pompadour that he usually sports. The clothing brand is also hosting a social media giveaway, with a lottery being held on the company’s X (formerly Twitter) account to give lucky participants their own acrylic board of the image. A total of 1,000 people will be chosen, meaning fans should hurry before the event (called a “major campaign”) ends at the conclusion of the month. There will also be further campaigns and events announced as the weeks transpire.
Yu Yu Hakusho and Furugi de Ikoka Continue to Grow
Even though the classic anime and manga have been over for years at this point, Yu Yu Hakusho continues to be an iconic franchise. Many consider it the peak of the shonen formula, with some favorably hailing Yu Yu Hakusho as better than Dragon Ball Z or later shows such as Naruto and One Piece. Featuring elements involving the supernatural and the spiritual world, it’s also seen as something of a predecessor to current anime/manga franchises such as Jujutsu Kaisen. Most recently, a live-action remake was released on Netflix in 2023, with the series receiving positive reviews among both fans and critics.
Meanwhile, Furugi de Ikoka is a Japanese clothing store brand that’s seen immense success and growth in its brief existence. Opening its first set of doors in February 2023, the chain is completely unstaffed, allowing customers to shop at their leisure without the presence of employees. This model has proved to be exceptionally popular, with the brand now having almost 50 stores across Japan in less than two years. Offering second-hand items, the ultimate goal of the store is to provide a comfortable environment where shoppers can find fashionable, affordable clothing.
