Yup, the film is entitled “Suzume no Tojimari” by Makoto Shinkai, a leading animated film director in Japan. The film was officially released in Indonesia on March 8 2023. Like his previous works, in the film “Suzume no Tojimori”, Makoto Shinkai consistently creates stories with romantic and fantasy animation genres along with problems of natural disasters.

The film Suzume tells the story of the journey of a girl named Suzume starting in a quiet town in Kyushu (located in southwest Japan) when she meets a young man who tells her, “I’m looking for a door.” What Suzume found was a single, weathered door standing tall amidst the ruins as if protected from whatever calamity might strike. Seemingly drawn by its power, Suzume grabbed the knobā€¦ The doors began to open one after another all over Japan, unleashing destruction on anyone nearby. Suzume must close this portal to prevent further disaster.

Makoto Shinkai as the director and story maker of the film Suzume was inspired to create the story Suzume no Tojimari based on a phenomenon that had occurred in his country, Japan. Makoto Shinkai revealed that Suzume no Tojimari was inspired by the current population decline in Japan. Suzume no Tojimari was also made based on the same events when Japan was hit by a devastating earthquake that caused a tsunami that occurred in 2011.

“Tohoku is not a ruin, but it is a place where many people died, some (of the buildings) became uninhabitable so many of the buildings there became ruins,” said Makoto Shinkai.

This Suzume film is Makoto Shinkai’s 13th film.
