Adaptation of the novel ” Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha ” tells the story of Anos who is the reincarnation of the demon king from 2,000 years ago. Anos carries a mission of peace in his new life. But unfortunately, this future is not as he expected. Many things go against his common sense so he has to fix this problem alone. But slowly, he meets several people who become his newest colleagues. Starting from Misha, Sasha, Misa, Lay, his support group to his former subordinates who are still immortal in that era.

The seiyuu line-up involved in the anime adaptation of “ Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha ” also has a promising track record . The selection of OLDCODEX band vocalist Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Anos Voldigoad made me sure that this adaptation would be interesting. However, the production committee made a bold decision by choosing Tomori Kusunoki and Yuuko Natsuyoshi who played Misha and Sasha Necron respectively . I consider both of them to be rising seiyuu and both seiyuu can maximize their potential in playing these two unique heroines . Then Sayumi Watabe and Nene Hieda also performed well playing Eleonora Bianca and Misa Ilioroagu respectively . Both of them are also on the rise after only filling minor roles for several years previously.

Then what about the adaptation of the story from the novel? Before that, I try to be as objective as possible in this review. So it will feel like there are many points that can be debated positively.

Fair Enough Story Cutting, Except….

Skipping many details of the dialogue may feel wasteful, but it is necessary to satisfy the target achievement. As soon as we entered the adaptation of the first volume, I started to realize that many dialogues were cut but only in the small talk. Then the different time settings, such as when Anos fought Leorig at night which was different from the novel. Then the depiction of the flashback to 2,000 years ago which should have appeared at the beginning of the story, but was pushed to the second episode of the anime. This is only a small part of the difference in the adaptation of the story, but the flow of the depiction in the anime is still in accordance with the novel. So that makes me feel more relieved.

But as an Eleonore devotee, I regret the portion of the story at the end of the third volume that I hope can be adapted. Although it is only a fanservice , this moment shows Eleonore’s trust in Anos not only in physical condition, but also from her own soul. This cut part still makes me disappointed.

I can only give a score of 7.5/10 for the adaptation composition. Not bad, but also not reaching the point of satisfaction that I want. I give a thumbs up to the story composition, Jin Tanaka, who is also the composition of the series ” Yuru Camp “.

Rollercoaster Pace in Big Campaign

The number of skipped parts must of course be positively proportional to the tempo of the story. If I summarize, the tempo used in the anime adaptation is: fast-slow-medium-fast. Starting with the opening scene of the episode which is accelerated in order to introduce the characters of Anos, Sasha, and Misha. The director then slows down the tempo in episodes 3-4-5, before increasing it again in the following episodes until episode 9. I don’t need to explain anymore in the remaining episodes because some of the details have to be shortened in order to finish the series in episode 13.

For a storytelling model that requires a play-pause method to understand the terminology, characters, and explanations of the connections between the two camps (humans and demons), I think this tempo is still at a good level. However, that level is only the average of each episode. The peak of confusion for me if I don’t read the novel is in the first two episodes, episode 10, and episode 12. Moreover, the plot twist in the Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha series has the potential to make the audience scribble their own notes due to the crisis and identity change factors.

Animation Looks Excellent Despite Couple of Setbacks

Since Silver Link handled the Bofuri anime adaptation earlier this year, I have been convinced that the Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha anime adaptation will have good animation quality. Unlike usual, the budget for each episode does not seem too lopsided. So the animation work is not too problematic in each episode. The main problem with this anime adaptation is the coronavirus which pushed the anime broadcast from spring to summer. Coupled with the deficit in the April 2019-March 2020 fiscal year that Silver Link just announced some time ago. Silver Link, which officially absorbed all the assets of its subsidiary, Connect , was then fully acquired by Asahi Broadcasting Corporation . This studio is now regenerating under a new owner, and hopefully the sales of their anime BDs , including Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha, can reach their target.

Season 2? Too early for this. Unlike Bofuri and Destruction Flag Otome series which have already received announcements of their second season production, stakeholders have to wait until the work guarantee can meet the target. Under the new owner, hopefully Silver Link’s board can announce the second season early next year or at least in February 2021 (when the last BD volume is released).

Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha starts its anime like most meta isekai , even though it’s not an isekai. The initial story is enough to make people who are not readers of the novel or manga think this is just an ordinary mainstream anime , nothing special. OP characters and harem potential like most trash isekai series made Maou Gakuin almost dropped by me.

But after the story stepped on 3 episodes and above, the tension given was quite different. I saw a special vibes that could be given by this anime and managed to open my memory of the manga that I had read. Yes, it turns out I had read the manga but not completely finished it. So when Sasha still hadn’t shown her true intentions, I already knew it. Unfortunately, in the eyes of otaku who had just followed the anime, Sasha’s character was compared to Malty’s character from Tate Yuusha no Nariagari

By seeing the presentation of anime like this, it becomes a lesson for us not to judge anime before they finish showing it. Well, at least until the season is really over . Because I had started to believe that the anime would be interesting, but in the end it was still disappointing.

Actually, in the middle of the anime, they still use the same format over and over again. So Anos is the demon king, but no one wants to listen, then he has his subordinate demon elders who are brainwashed, in the end they need to be fought and realized first. Anos is all OP , solving every problem in the end, almost everything goes smoothly. Even though this format is used over and over again, it is still within my tolerance level to maintain my enthusiasm for watching the anime . Maou Gakuin still has an aura that no matter what, it can make me curious about Anos’ behavior which is actually predictable.

The depiction of Anos’ past is the key to why this anime is still saved in my eyes, at least it’s not as bad as anime that uses OP characters but fails to present their real story . Anos’ omnipotence is actually interesting to watch, more interesting than just seeing the potential waifu of a group of women within Anos’ magnetic reach. Maybe this is the true meaning of OP , where I will be able to continue to accept this Anos character even though the story is not that great.

Too bad. At the end of the anime, the pacing is actually messy. Gomen, I must spoiler , so in the last arc discussed, the demon king academy held a field trip to the hero academy. This part alone is already suffocating. Even though it was cheated, the response from the demon king academy was still not exciting enough in my eyes, until everything had to be taken over by Anos. Long story short, Anos managed to defeat the hero academy’s top students, but the story suddenly changed to a larger scale. The declaration of war between humans and demons was echoed again, all starting from a field trip that was suffocating. Not to mention what made me annoyed here, the way they resolved it was so bad. I like the story of the shell necklace

which unexpectedly told the story of the ehem I won’t spoil you too much . What is clear is that the ending is still a bit crazy in my eyes. I don’t know if it’s because the fan union idolizes, it doesn’t seem like it, but it’s strange in the eyes of many otaku out there. I feel more strange why the Avos confessor had to appear at that time and what the plan was at that time was still not finished telling him. At the end of the anime, we only see a scene where everything is peaceful without fully explaining what the anime really wants to tell. Where is Shin, and what will happen if this story is brought to season two, all of that is not depicted in the ending.

Hoping to get an impromptu cool anime, like watching Kamisama Hajimemasita.

But, lately it doesn’t really suit my taste. Finally, a few days ago I tried searching again on the Myanimelist website. Found a title that is a little suspicious. NANA. That’s the title, yes, the person’s name. Why did you choose this title? Because, in the Shoujo category, usually there are always handsome male anime characters. And romance, which is a sign that there will be a love story.

When I watched it, wow, this is specifically for 21+, right guys. But, if you’re curious about what this anime series is like. I’ll tell you a lot here, although it seems difficult if I’m asked to retell it from A to Z. There are just a few things that I really like about this anime, okay?

The Story Starts From Here

A little story at the beginning, there were two girls who were only 20 years old. Wants to leave his hometown to Tokyo. These two girls met on the train, sitting in the same row of seats. And, what’s unique is that their name is the same: NANA. One is named Komatsu Nana and the other is Osaki Nana.

It’s not just the same name, even their departure to Tokyo has almost the same goal. Can be in the same city as the guy they love. Komatsu Nana, a feminine, clumsy, naive girl , is very busy and also likes cute things typical of girls. Meanwhile, Osaki Nana, a rock band vocalist, has been discovered. She is tomboyish, has a beautiful face, has gothic makeup and is an active smoker.

Well, these two finally unknowingly met again by fate when fighting over an apartment. It was said that the apartment was not like an apartment, like a castle with many rooms. But, it was rented like that. Well, when both of them needed a cheap rental house, but the condition in that place was that there was only one empty room with two bedrooms. Finally, it was agreed that they would not fight, so that the two girls named Nana would share the rental house.

After both of them agreed. Start the two of them living their lives together. With different super characters. So, this is why this film is for ages 21 and over. First, there is the love scene. Second, all episodes always show characters who are active smokers. Third, their love life is truly young adult style. About Blast Rock Band From Zero to Hero

Earlier the character Osaki Nana, called Nana chan, was introduced. Before he went to Tokyo, he had joined a band called Blast. Consisting of Yasu, Ren, Nobu and Nana Chan as vocalists . Between Ren and Nana Chan themselves, there is a quite sad romance story. Both have a similar way of life, namely from the family that abandoned them. Ren comes from an orphanage and Nana Chan lives without knowing who her father is and was abandoned by her mother. He was raised by a grandmother who was not at all proud of her grandson.

The Blast band is already quite famous in their hometown. One day, Ren received an offer to join as a replacement guitarist in a well-known band called Trapnest. This band also has the same rock genre. However, he had already appeared and the song was already famous throughout Japan. The band Trapnest is actually not that familiar with Yasu from Blast. Because they have been playmates since school.

When she arrived in Tokyo, Nana chan wanted to achieve her dream of becoming a rock singer. However, because there were no more friends from her band in Tokyo, she ended up working odd jobs. Since Ren moved to Trapnest, the Blast Group has finally disbanded. However, Nobu’s arrival in Tokyo brought about a big change. Assisted by Komatsu Nana who was later called Hatchiko, also brought many positive things afterward.

It started with Nobu’s enthusiasm to re-form Blast, even though he lacked people. He hopes that Nana Chan will open her heart. This wish was welcomed by Hatchiko and fully supported. He also created the vacancy information to fill a guitarist at Blast. They met Shin-chan. Who is still very young, but his abilities are quite good. Another good news came with Yasu’s arrival in Tokyo. Finally the band Blast was formed again.

The Life Story And About The Gloomy Children’s Time

Hatchiko actually went to Tokyo without her parents knowing. Because she was promised by her boyfriend, Shoiji Endo, that if he was accepted into college, Hatchi could come live with him in Tokyo. So, after waiting for almost a year, Hatchi finally got the happy news. And, he just ran away from home to achieve his dream of living with his girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Nana Chan has opened a little about her life story. So, he never knew who his father was. Then, his mother left him to live with his grandmother. Meanwhile the mother went with another man. Nana Chan’s life is quite hard. The grandmother was not at all proud of him. In fact, tend to hate it. Until Nana Chan grew up to be a closed girl and was bullied.

He was expelled from school because he was accused of selling himself to make ends meet. This news emerged after the grandmother died. Many of her friends ended up making up stories that Nana Chan herself didn’t even do. Because she was too lazy to deal with the news, Nana Chan just remained silent without defending herself. Until finally he was dismissed from school.

Before that incident, Nobu, who was Nana chan’s school friend. He introduced Nana chan to two of his friends. Yasu and Ren, who were looking for a vocalist for their band . After they felt compatible, they were always together. After being expelled from school, Ren invited Nana chan to live with him. The two became dependent on each other, although sometimes hatred haunted Nana chan.

Nobu is actually a rich kid. His father owns two famous hotels that can support his future life. However, he chose not to rely on his parents’ business and decided to support himself from music. This is Nobu’s life, which makes the ending of the film called happy, yes happy. Called sad, yes very painful. So, it can’t be called a very happy ending because there is a mixture of red onion pieces.

Yasu, the most relaxed guy in this group. He is a graduate of law school. Drummer in the band Blast who has many partners. Tends to be quiet but has a pretty mature strategy. Maybe because he is older than his other friends. However, he sometimes thinks too much about his friends. His love life is really pitiful, because throughout the story he is not shown dating at all. But, he is busy with his band and work.

Sachi Chan is one of the youngest. But, not many people know his background. Only Yasu has the card. Even so, Sachi claims to be 18 years old, even though she is still 15 years old. He hides many secrets, some members even suspect he sells himself to survive. In fact, he was born from a mother who knows where. Being cared for by a man who wasn’t even her biological father.

Their sadness is related to the past when their children were not good. Making many of them experience trauma. Trauma from being in a serious relationship. The trauma of having a child. Until the trauma of having a romantic relationship. And, this trauma is quite serious, especially for Nana Chan who looks very vulnerable.

A Love That Is So Complicated Like A Tangled Thread

There is a young adult romance. Who is trying to pursue a career and dreams. While studying at university. Like what Hatchi and her boyfriend Shoiji experienced. Although Hatchi didn’t go to college because her parents didn’t want to pay for it, because she ran away. Finally, decided to find a side job. However, who would have thought that until around episode 16, Hatchi’s love story ended tragically.

Perlu diketahui, Hatchi ini tipe cewek yang cepet banget jatuh cinta. Dia penganut jatuh cinta pada pandangan pertama. Jadi, jangan kesel aja kalau nonton serial ini. Soalnya setiap dia ketemu cowok pasti langsung jatuh cinta. Langsung jalan bareng. Kayak cepet banget gitu nemplok sana – nemplok sini-nya. Sempet kesel, soalnya bandinginnya sama Nana chan yang masih setia aja gitu sama Ren. Meski keduanya berantem mulu.

As for Ren, it was already told a little bit earlier. Indeed, both Nana chan and Ren are closing themselves off to each other. Not wanting to start asking for news but still trying to find out about each other. Until the peak, when Yasu provoked Nana chan to clarify her relationship with Ren. What was originally going to break up ended up getting back together. However, their love story tends to be very complicated.

Well, when Hatchi invited Nana chan to watch the Trapnest concert. This was before Yasu fished for Nana to clarify their relationship. At the concert, Hatchi really helped Nana-chan so she could meet Ren. So, they sat at the very front, very close to Ren’s position. Here, Hatchi’s unexpected service made Nana chan want to repay his kindness. Hatchi just wanted to ask Takumi, the guitarist of the Trapnest Band, for his autograph.

In this part, I even muttered, ” Hatchi, you are so lucky to be matched with an idol .” Until I remembered Slank’s drummer, Bang Bimbim, who was married to his fan. The thing is, Nana Chan immediately brought Takumi to their apartment and opened the door for Hatchi when he came home from work. Who wouldn’t be surprised, the door was opened by an artist! At that meeting, Takumi praised Hatchi’s cooking which made him cry.

After breaking up, then being given hope by her idol artist. Who would refuse? That’s what Hatchi experienced when she was invited to meet Takumi. Takumi’s friends, such as Yasu and Nana chan, already knew very well that Takumi was a player. So, they were worried when Hatchi got close to Takumi. To the point that Hatchi didn’t tell Nana that they had met twice.

Their worries come true, Hatchi’s relationship with Takumi is not what Hatchi thought. Of course, it’s called dating an artist who is on the rise. Have a lot of schedules. It’s definitely hard to find. Moreover, they are being chased by paparazzi. It’s getting harder. Until finally Hatchi ended their relationship unilaterally. Then, go out with Nobu.

Closing

Haiaaaa… the love story in this drama is really complicated. However, the creator’s ability is really cool. Because, it makes you really curious. Especially, with the division of the narrative from the beginning to the middle, Hatchi’s portion. And, the middle to the end is Nana chan’s portion as the narrator. When watching before reaching the end, I had time to pray, “please, don’t let anyone die from illness or suicide, please.” Alhamdulillah, it came true ahahahaha. Because, it will definitely hurt.

That’s it, because the name is the same. So, when Hatchi calls “Nana” it’s like calling yourself. It’s as if he’s recounting something from the past. So, more and more scared dong. Afraid that it will be like the movie Orange which makes you sad like no other. This makes me sad too, because the lives of the characters go up and down a lot. Like riding a Roller Coaster. Abis is sad, laughing continues to be sad again.

The advantage of this anime is the soundtrack! Very cool. Rock genre with sad but very meaningful lyrics. That’s it, in the first few episodes, at the end of the show a person named Nana appears. Which introduces several places in anime, which actually exist in the real world. One of them is a place called Jackson.

From time to time there are always sports genre comics and anime, especially sports that are quite popular in Japan such as basketball . There are lots of anime titles that tell the story of basketball. Some of them have also been quite popular in Indonesia since the 2000s.

Starting from Slam Dunk and Dear Boys, to the Kuroko no Basket era in the 2010s. One by one, these anime became entertainment for basketball lovers in Indonesia. Now, there is another basketball anime titled Ahiru no Sora which started airing since October 2, 2019. Here is INDOSPORT’s review for the Ahiru no Sora anime.

Synopsis

Ahiru no Sora tells the story of a high school student named Sora Kuramatani who promised his mother, a former athlete from the Japanese Women’s National Team, that he would achieve success in an inter-high school tournament.

However, Sora’s dream had to go through a difficult path because the boys’ basketball team at Kuzuryu High School where he attended was on hiatus and was not accepting new members. From there, Sora’s adventure to keep his promise to his mother to excel at Inter-High begins.

Plot and Characters

After Sora tries to revive the Kusuryu High School basketball team, one by one the characters emerge. Starting from the female basketball team members, the stern teacher, and the manager.

Soundtrack
